antibacterial effects of rue (ruta graveolens) extract against pathogenic bacteria (lactococcus garvieae & aeromonas hydrophila)
Authors
abstract
rue, ruta graveolens, is a medicinal plant in traditional medicine that has several therapeutic properties such as anti-carcinogenic agent, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hypotensive, and spasmolytic. this study was carried out to evaluate the antibacterial effects of the etanolic extract of rue against piscine pathogenic bacteria viz. lactococcus garvieae and aeromonas hydrophila isolated in iranian trout farms in compare with common antibiotics (erythromycin, tetracycline, sulfamethoxazole and enrofloxacin), using disc diffusion and serial macro dilution methods. the minimal inhibitory concentrations (mic) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (mbc) of extract were also determined. the results showed that the etanolic extract of r. graveolens has no inhibitory effect on growth of both gram positive and negative evaluated bacteria which may be related to resistant character of the bacteria, extraction method and/or absence of a particular chemical compound in the extracts of the plant.

An extract of Ruta graveolens was found to be cytotoxic to Dalton's lymphoma ascites (DLA), Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) and L929 cells in culture (IC100=16 mg/ml) and also to increase the lifespan of tumour bearing animals. The extract further decreased solid tumours developing from DLA and EAC cells when given simultaneously with elongation of the lifespan of tumour-bearing animals. A home...

In this study the forward and reverse primers were designated to amplify the segments (~250 bps and ~650 bps) of the gene coding domains 1 and 4 of aerolysin of Aeromonas hydrophila. These two domains are involved in pathogenesis of the aerolysin gene. Sequences for two restriction enzymes, Pst I and Hind III, were included in the forward and reverse primers respectively. These restriction enz...

The "in vitro" antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of propolis (EEIP) from Urmia, Iran was investigated against three prevalent species of fish bacterial pathogens including: Aeromonas hydrophila LMG 3770, Yersinia ruckeri LMG 3279 and Streptococcus iniae LMG 14520. In this study two standard susceptibility testing techniques (Micro-broth dilution method and Agar-well diffusion method) we...
